SEA-LNG and the Methane Abatement in Maritime Innovation Initiative (MAMII) have signed a four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen technical cooperation on methane emissions from LNG-fuelled vessels.
Under the agreement, MAMII will serve as a technical knowledge partner within SEA-LNG’s delegation at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), contributing expertise on methane measurement methodologies, emissions monitoring and abatement technologies.
The partnership will also see MAMII representatives participate in IMO technical working groups, correspondence groups and related discussions under SEA-LNG’s coordination.
The collaboration builds on an existing relationship between the two organisations and follows MAMII’s research into methane reduction technologies, including trials involving plasma-catalytic systems and methane-oxidation catalysts. According to the initiative, these trials have produced promising preliminary results.
