Passengers travelling on a SpiceJet flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru staged a protest after their aircraft departed more than six hours behind schedule, with flyers alleging that the airline failed to provide timely updates or respond to repeated calls for information.
Flight SG648 was scheduled to leave Kolkata at 9.10 am on 22 October 2026 but eventually took off at 3.29 pm, according to The Times of India. The disruption triggered a protest outside the airport manager’s office as passengers demanded answers from the airline.
The incident was reportedly the second such disruption involving SpiceJet at Kolkata airport in two days. Following the protest, senior airport officials reportedly contacted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to inform it about the situation.
The episode puts the spotlight not only on flight delays but also on the communication failures that can deepen passenger frustration when airlines cannot provide a clear departure time.
