Spreader OEMs continue to develop new products for crane and mobile equipment spreaders. ZPMC has unveiled a new spreader assembly line that almost doubles its annual spreader production capacity.

Double container spreaders for empty container handling FLTs (or empty handlers) are well known in the container handling industry. These lift containers from the long side, hence why they are sometimes known as sidelifters, rather than with a top mounted spreader that engages four corner castings.

To lift an empty container from the side, twistlocks on the spreader engage the upper corner castings of a container horizontally. To lift two empty containers together, some twin empty spreaders feature side clamps that hold the top container to the lower unit from the sides of the corner castings.

Several years ago Elme introduced its Model 582LS INNOVATION spreader for handling two empty containers that features two horizontal twistlocks that engage two containers from the front (long sides) of the containers. One set of twistlocks engages the top corner castings of the lower container, while the other engages the lower corner castings of the upper containers.
