Stena Line has reached an agreement to acquire the Somerset ro-ro vessel from CLdN, with the ship set to enter service in December on the Dublin-Liverpool route.
It will be renamed Stena Freighter, having previously operated in Stena Line’s network as a chartered vessel.
Stena Line currently operates two vessels on the Rotterdam-Harwich route. However, charters for both Mistral from Godby Shipping and Thuleland from Wallenius SOL are set to expire soon. They will be replaced with Stena Scotia and Stena Hibernia, which will be redeployed from their Dublin–Liverpool route.
“It’s [Somerset] a vessel that fits well within our network and has the flexibility and capacity to operate on several of our routes. We know Somerset well from her previous service with us and know what she can deliver. With Somerset, we have an excellent option with significant capacity for the Dublin– Liverpool route,” said Magnus Lander, head of network & business development at Stena Line.
