Stoneridge, Kodiak AI partner to integrate MirrorEye camera mirrors into autonomous trucks
Stoneridge and Kodiak AI have partnered to integrate Stoneridge's MirrorEye camera monitor system into autonomous commercial trucks...
Camera mirror pioneer Stoneridge and autonomous trucking tech company Kodiak AI are collaborating to integrate Stoneridge's camera technology into autonomous commercial trucks.
The partnership launches with the integration of Stoneridge’s MirrorEye Camera Monitor System (CMS) into newly deployed trucks equipped with the Kodiak Driver, Kodiak's proprietary AI-powered autonomous driving system. Moving forward, the two companies plan to explore deeper technological integrations and solutions to enhance vehicle data processing.
Kodiak’s autonomous trucks utilize proprietary "SensorPods" mounted in place of conventional side mirrors to provide enhanced visibility. Until now, these pods have retained traditional rear-vision mirrors to comply with U.S. commercial trucking regulations.
MirrorEye replaces standard side mirrors with exterior digital cameras paired with high-definition in-cab displays, eliminating blind spots and improving nighttime and inclement weather visibility. Stoneridge holds a landmark exemption from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and it was renewed for a five-year term in 2024, permitting motor carriers to operate MirrorEye-equipped trucks without traditional rear-vision mirrors.
