Heavy-duty vehicle manufacturer TII Kamag has received an order from a Brazilian mining company for six of its 140-tonne slag pot carriers (SPCs).
The SPCs, which feature a U-frame design, will replace the customer’s current fleet and transport hot nickel slag between the plant and a remote slag disposal site. Nickel slag is an industrial byproduct or co-product created during the smelting of nickel ore or ferronickel alloys.
Between the nickel plant and the slag disposal site, the SPCs must cover a section approximately 1 km in length and with gradients of up to 5 percent. TII Kamag has adapted the vehicles to these conditions, with powerful diesel engines and a payload capacity of 140 tonnes, allowing them to handle slag pots with a volume of up to 30 cu m.
The six vehicles are being delivered in two stages, with the first SPC already on its way to Brazil and two more units having just been fabricated. The remaining three vehicles are slated for delivery by the end of 2026.
