Tuticorin International Container Terminal (TICT), a private container handling facility in South India, announced that it has electrified all its operational equipment, achieving green terminal status.
The green terminal certification follows the introduction of 13 electric internal transfer vehicles, which were flagged off on 22 October by India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways secretary Vijay Kumar. The vehicles are road-style trucks, rather than conventional terminal tractors, and will be used to move containers within the terminal.
The addition of the 13 E-ITVs completes the terminal’s transition to fully electrified operational equipment, according to V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority. The authority said the move would support lower-emission cargo handling and improve energy efficiency.
