Ulsan and Pilbara advance green ammonia bunkering

Ports in South Korea and Australia have completed green ammonia bunkering operations, marking further progress in the development of alternative marine fuel supply.
The Ulsan Port Authority (UPA) supplied approximately 800 tonnes of green ammonia to Terra Clove, the world’s first ocean-going ammonia dual-fuel very large ammonia carrier (VLAC). The operation took place on 25–26 October at Pier 2 of Ulsan Main Port. A pipe-to-ship (PTS) system was used to transfer the fuel directly from shore-based facilities.
The 93,000 m³ vessel, owned by Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), was built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The operation involved UPA, EPS, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and LOTTE Fine Chemical, which supplied the ammonia.
The operation follows UPA’s previous ammonia bunkering activities. In April 2026, the authority supplied approximately 600 tonnes of green ammonia to a 45,000 m³-class gas carrier, also using the PTS method. UPA said the operations are helping establish the infrastructure and operational framework needed for commercial ammonia bunkering at the port.
