This week’s round-up of news from the global urban rail transport sector, from Railway Gazette International.
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has awarded Siemens Mobility a contract to supply 27 four-car driverless trainsets for metro lines 1 and 2, and 52 cars to extend existing trainsets.
Two consortia submitted bids for the tenders called in October 2025 by the Ministry of Mobility and Infrastructure for the construction of the 9.8 km driverless metro Line F in Buenos Aires. One is the consortium of UT CITIC Construction, Ranken Railway Construction, Supercemento, Eleprint and Panedile, and the other is the consortium of Roggio and Ghella. Line F will link Brandsen in the south with Pacífico in the northwest. The contract is due to be awarded in December and work will begin in early 2027, the head of the Buenos Aires municipal government Jorge Macri said.
The Asian Development Bank has approved a US$302·38m loan to support the modernisation of the Baku Metro, including the introduction of CBTC, improved passenger information systems and cybersecurity measures. The upgrades are intended to reduce peak-hour headways and improve operational safety.
