The US Department of Transportation has announced a US$2.3 billion investment covering freight and passenger rail projects across 45 states and the District of Columbia.
The funding will be distributed through the Federal Railroad Administration’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Grant Programme.
The latest funding round includes 105 projects and is expected to support improvements across more than 2,000 miles of railway track. State, local and private partners will provide an additional US$1.9 billion in non-federal funding.
The Arkansas and Missouri project will replace rail and sleepers, improve siding infrastructure and install rail lubricators on high-degree curves.
