US Foods Delivery Drivers in New York Authorize Strike

More than 260 US Foods delivery drivers with Teamsters Local 282 in the New York tri-state area have voted unanimously to authorize a strike, over a dispute with employers over wages, benefits and working conditions.
According to a November 3 release from the union, a strike would impact hundreds of deliveries for local restaurants, hospitals and schools across the region. The Teamsters are also in the middle of similar labor disputes with US Foods employers in Montana and Arizona.
“Our fight isn’t just in New York,” said Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division. “If US Foods continues down this path, it will pay the price across the country. The Teamsters represent more than 5,000 US Foods workers nationwide and we are united and ready to take a stand against this company if necessary.”
In Arizona, Teamsters Local 104 accused US Foods of "running a dirty, illegal and hostile anti-union campaign," after workers voted 19-14 against unionizing. Following the vote on October 22, Local 104 filed an objection claiming that US Foods had intimidated Arizona workers and suspended a union supporter for encouraging colleagues to support the Teamsters.
