Wallenius Wilhelmsen has taken the next step in planning for future demand with an order for four new dual-fuel 9,900 ceu ro-ro vessels at the Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu). The shipbuilding agreement includes an option for up to eight additional vessels, with deliveries starting in mid-2030.
The company said it is adding capacity to meet future demand and support long-term growth. The order for the pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) comes shortly after HLPFI reported the company was in discussions with shipyards. Should all options be exercised, the bill will top out at USD1.5 billion.
“We continue to see attractive opportunities in the segments we serve and want to ensure we have the capacity, flexibility and efficiency needed to support our customers well into the next decades,” said Xavier Leroi, chief operating officer, shipping services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
The investments in new units build on Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s ongoing Shaper Class fleet renewal programme. The vessels are purpose-built for Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s trading patterns, combining hoistable decks, strong ramps and adaptable cargo spaces capable of accommodating a broad range of cargo.
