Wrong Repair Prompts Recall of Freightliner, Western Star 4x2 Trucks

DTNA is recalling more than 2,400 trucks that received an incompatible software fix instead of the hardware repair required to address brake valve corrosion.
Daimler Truck North America is recalling 2,403 Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star 49X trucks because some vehicles repaired under two previous recalls received an incompatible software remedy instead of the required replacement brake components.
The original recalls addressed front-axle brake modulator valves that may corrode. If corrosion affects a valve’s operation, full braking pressure could be applied to one front wheel during braking initiated by the electronic stability control or roll stability control system. The resulting difference in braking force could cause the truck to pull suddenly to one side, increasing the risk of a crash.
The vehicles were previously repaired under DTNA recalls FL958 and FL966, corresponding to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recalls 22V817 and 23V073.
