Zipline raises $1.5bn to expand US drone delivery network
Autonomous drone delivery firm Zipline has raised $1.5 billion at a $21.5 billion valuation to boost US manufacturing, scale operations, and enhance its fleet.
San Francisco-based autonomous drone delivery pioneer Zipline has successfully closed a monumental funding round, raising $1.5 billion. The massive capital injection elevates the company to a post-money valuation of $21.5 billion, cementing its status as a behemoth in the advanced logistics and aviation sectors. According to the firm, this new wave of financing will be strategically deployed to significantly expand its manufacturing facilities within the United States and aggressively increase its headcount as it works towards constructing a comprehensive, nationwide drone delivery network.
The high-profile investment round was spearheaded by Paradigm, WCM Investment Management, and Layer Global. The offering also attracted substantial participation from a consortium of heavyweight investors, including Valor Equity Partners, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Uber, Tiger Global, J.P. Morgan, ARK Invest, and Salesforce Ventures.
The funding arrives at a critical juncture for the logistics industry. Zipline notes that consumer demand for rapid delivery is currently at an all-time high. However, traditional ground delivery networks are becoming increasingly constrained by worsening traffic congestion, ageing municipal infrastructure, and relentlessly rising operational costs.
