DACHSER appoints Daan van der Meer to lead Allgäu logistics center

DACHSER has appointed Daan van der Meer as General Manager of its Allgäu logistics center, effective 1 July 2026.

He succeeds Thomas Henkel, who is retiring after 40 years with DACHSER, including 24 years leading the company’s largest operational site.

The Allgäu logistics center employs around 850 people. It handles approximately 2,000 tonnes of industrial goods and 3,000 tonnes of food products every day.

Van der Meer joined DACHSER more than eight years ago. Since 2022, he has served as Freight Forwarding Manager for the company’s European Logistics business line in Memmingen.

He began his career with DACHSER in 2012 at the company’s branch in Waddinxveen, the Netherlands. He later managed freight forwarding operations in Grevenmacher, Luxembourg.

In his new role, Van der Meer will work alongside Florian Graber, who became Branch Manager for Food Logistics at the Allgäu logistics center in January 2026.

Alexander Tonn, Chief Operating Officer of Road Logistics at DACHSER, said the company is pleased to fill key leadership positions through internal promotion.

He said Van der Meer successfully completed DACHSER’s executive development programme and has demonstrated strong leadership and operational expertise in recent years.

Henkel played a key role in developing the Allgäu logistics center.

He oversaw the construction of the site in 1992 and later managed the merger of the Kempten and Memmingen branches. He also helped expand the site’s contract logistics business before becoming General Manager in 2002.

Tonn said Henkel made an outstanding contribution to DACHSER throughout his career. He added that Henkel transformed the Memmingen operation into the company’s largest logistics site while promoting innovation, customer focus and leadership development.
