Chinese player picks up FPSO job for Eni’s African oil & gas project

China-based provider of clean energy services Wison New Energies (WNE) has confirmed a new deal with Italy’s energy giant Eni and Altera Infrastructure for a newbuild floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel destined to be deployed at the next phase of an oil and gas development project off the coast of Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa.

Wison New Energies has corroborated the signing of an engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contract with Eni and Altera Infrastructure for a new FPSO that will be used at the Whale Phase 3 offshore oil and gas field in Côte d’Ivoire.

This project is being developed by the Italian firm in the African country, with Altera Infrastructure as owner and operator of the FPSO facility. The latter was also previously involved as a contractor for redeployment of the FPSO Petrojarl Kong and the FSO Yamoussoukro installed in Whale Phase 2.

Designed for operation in water depths of approximately 800–1,200 meters, the FPSO will process up to 90,000 barrels of oil per day, 80,000 barrels of produced water per day, and 160 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, supporting the efficient development of regional energy resources.

With this project, Wison New Energies claims to be marking a major step forward for its FPSO business and further strengthening its EPCIC capabilities for global offshore oil and gas development, delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions for global offshore energy development.

Baleine Phase 3 will boost total field production to approximately 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 200 million cubic feet of gas per day, with all gas produced to be allocated to the domestic market, contributing to Côte d’Ivoire’s energy needs, expanding electricity generation, and supporting the country’s industrial development.

This assignment comes shortly after Lloyd’s Register gave approval in principle (AiP) to Wison New Energies for a new harsh environment internal turret FPSO design.
