Chinese logistics and maritime provider Xiamen ITG Shipping, a subsidiary of ITG Group, placed an order for up to six 15,200 dwt multipurpose vessels at the Qinshi Jiamei Shipyard. Developed together with the German shipowner Von Nordic Maritime, the vessels will feature high cargo capacity as well as the ability to accommodate multiple cargo types.
The agreement is structured as a 2+2+2 package, comprising an initial firm order for four vessels alongside options for a further two units. Construction of the lead ship is scheduled to commence at the Qinshi Jiamei Shipyard in March 2027.
The newbuilds are engineered for flexibility in the project and general cargo markets, according to Xiamen ITG Shipping. The multipurpose vessels are also designed to be highly energy-efficient, ensuring full compliance with the latest environmental and emission regulations.
Transitioning to a project manager
For Xiamen ITG Shipping, the contract marks a strategic milestone as it accelerates its transition from a traditional trading service provider to a full lifecycle project manager.
Under this new self-operated business model, the company managed the entire closed-loop acquisition process directly. This included steering the initial client negotiations, securing foreign exchange guarantees, and managing progress payments before issuing the formal construction instructions and coordinating the technical adaptations directly with the domestic shipyard.
The company stated that it intends to use this end-to-end management approach as a blueprint for future large-scale orders, continuing to target the niche multipurpose and special-purpose vessel markets alongside domestic and international partners.
