Port of Los Angeles formalises relationship with Shenzhen and Yantian

The Port of Los Angeles has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Yantian International Container Terminals and Shenzhen Port Group, establishing a formal sister port relationship with Shenzhen and providing a structured framework for cooperation in sustainable trade, maritime innovation and global supply chain development.

The MOU was signed in Shenzhen during the Shenzhen Port Global Supply Chain High-Quality Development Conference, which drew 850 representatives from ports, ocean carriers, cargo owners, manufacturers, government agencies and industry associations.

The agreement provides a framework for collaboration across green technologies, clean energy, port operations, maritime innovation, logistics and supply chain development, to be advanced through technical exchanges, sharing of best practices, research and demonstration projects, business development, workforce engagement and regular institutional dialogue.

During the conference, Port of Los Angeles officials joined international port leaders in launching the Shenzhen Port International Green Shipping Corridor Cooperation Initiative, a multilateral effort to accelerate maritime decarbonisation through cleaner marine fuels, advanced technologies, operational efficiencies and stronger international collaboration, with the objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions while supporting more sustainable global supply chains.

Gene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, described the MOU as creating new opportunities to share innovation, advance sustainable port operations and build more resilient supply chains, framing the partnership as a contribution to a cleaner and more efficient future for global trade.

The Shenzhen partnership further expands the Port of Los Angeles’s growing network of international cooperation, which already includes Green Shipping Corridor partnerships with Shanghai, Singapore, Guangzhou, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya and partners in Vietnam, reflecting the port’s long-term strategy of advancing international collaboration and accelerating the maritime energy transition.
