Qube has completed an AU$13m investment in the first stage of upgrade works at the former Albany Bulk Handling site at the Port of Albany in Western Australia. Qube Bulk acquired the terminal and shiploader from Albany Bulk Handling in July 2025.
According to Qube, the upgrades included strengthening the hardstand and shiploader, as well as installing a new electrical grid. The works have transformed the facility from a woodchip-only operation into a multi-commodity terminal capable of handling grain, mineral sands and critical minerals.
“The milestone promises to kick off a new era of commodity and export market diversification at the port. Additionally, this investment creates new opportunities for regional producers, miners and exporters to move product to market more efficiently, access additional export pathways and strengthen the competitiveness of the Great Southern supply chain,” Qube said.
The company is also considering a second stage of upgrades, including fixed grain storage, covered multi-commodity storage sheds and improved segregation of open stockpiles.
The Port of Albany is the region’s main gateway for exports to markets across Asia and the Middle East.
