Port of Long Beach records third-busiest June on record

The Port of Long Beach has reported its third-busiest June on record, handling 779,331 TEU last month, up 10.6% compared with June 2025.

Imports increased by 11% to 387,025 TEU, while exports declined by 1.3% to 86,446 TEU. Empty container volumes rose by 14.1% to 305,860 TEU.

As previously reported by WorldCargo NewsPOLB handled 842,030 TEU in May, a 31.7% increase year-on-year, making it the port’s third-busiest May on record.

In the first half of the year, the port moved 4,829,578 TEU, up 1.7% compared with the same period in 2025. This puts the port slightly ahead of the pace set during its busiest year on record.

In other recent developments, POLB approved US$58.2m last month to deploy zero-emission cargo-handling equipment, cleaner harbour craft and a zero-emission locomotive. The investment supports the port’s goal of becoming the world’s first zero-emissions port. The funding will cover 61 units of zero-emission, human-operated cargo-handling equipment, supported by 21 chargers, as well as six zero-emission and five cleaner harbour craft, and one Switcher zero-emission locomotive.

The port also established a US$1m award last month for the first oceangoing vessel to refuel with methanol at its harbour on a commercial scale. The initiative aims to accelerate the industry’s transition towards cleaner, lower-carbon fuels.
