Guarujá 2034 Movement points to the Port of Santos, tunnel and airport as pillars for the city’s future

The Guarujá 2034 Movement is a project that was created with the objective of planning actions so that, in 2034 (the year of the city’s centenary), Guarujá is consolidated as a national reference in sustainable development, urban efficiency, security and generation of opportunities. To this end, the initiative mentions some priority projects such as the Santos-Guarujá Tunnel and the Metropolitan Civil Airport, in addition to considering that the Port of Santos plays the role of a major economic development anchor within the movement’s strategy.

In an exclusive interview with Jornal Portuário, Lourival de Pieri, president of the Guarujá 2034 Movement, reported that from an economic point of view, the tunnel will have impacts by creating a truly integrated metropolitan region, facilitating the movement of workers, students, service providers and tourists. In relation to the real estate and business market, Guarujá will go through a strong appreciation cycle with the implementation of the dry connection.

Furthermore, according to De Pieri, the Port of Santos plays an important role in the city’s development and, therefore, the movement already has projects aimed at balancing the demands of the Port of Santos and the Metropolitan Civil Airport with those of tourism in Guarujá, considering these two fronts (port and tourism) as complementary drivers of development.

So that they can exist in harmony, the president considers it essential to structure the so-called segregated development corridors. He mentions that the Port of Santos, on the Left Bank, must have exclusive and optimized road access, preventing the bottleneck of urban traffic and preserving areas of tourist and residential interest. The port’s Left Bank brings to Guarujá an activity that will be the main generator of indirect tax revenue, technical jobs and attracting investment in infrastructure in the municipality.

Other urban mobility, nautical infrastructure and logistical efficiency projects mentioned by Lourival de Pieri include integrated security, with smart cameras in partnership with Muralha Paulista; the ordering of cargo along Avenida Perimetral do Porto; the restructuring of the city’s entrance as the main land access; the Nova Conexão Seca Norte (road connecting “Rabo do Dragão” to the Rio-Santos Highway); public piers and nautical ecotourism; and the “Guarujá Explorer – BusTur”, a tourist bus in Guarujá.

These projects were chosen by the movement as priorities and are considered essential for the city to grow sustainably.

Regarding the preparation of new generations, the president highlights that the future of the job market in Guarujá will necessarily involve the areas of high-performance port logistics, information technology applied to smart cities and high-standard sustainable tourism. In this way, the movement proposes a broad partnership between public authorities, universities and the productive sector to create centers of excellence and professional technical training, especially aimed at young people in all neighborhoods of the municipality.

“Education and innovation are the only real ways to break the barrier of social vulnerability and guarantee inclusive and lasting development”, says Lourival de Pieri.
