CMA CGM raises FAK rates and introduces PSS for Middle East and Red Sea trades

CMA CGM will introduce new Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates and a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on shipments from the Mediterranean and North Africa to the Middle East Gulf and Red Sea, effective 1 August 2026.

The new rates will apply to dry cargo and paying empty containers loaded from Mediterranean main ports until further notice.

New FAK rates

For shipments to the Middle East Gulf, CMA CGM set FAK rates at US$7,600 per 20ft container and US$7,800 per 40ft container from the West Mediterranean and Adriatic. Rates from the Black Sea will be US$8,200 per 20ft and US$8,400 per 40ft, while shipments from the East Mediterranean will be US$8,100 per 20ft and US$6,300 per 40ft.

For cargo bound for the Red Sea, rates will be US$3,400 per 20ft and US$3,600 per 40ft from the West Mediterranean, US$4,200 per 20ft and US$4,400 per 40ft from the Adriatic, US$4,700 per 20ft and US$4,900 per 40ft from the Black Sea, and US$3,600 per 20ft and US$3,800 per 40ft from the East Mediterranean.

The announced FAK rates include basic ocean freight and bunker-related surcharges. Additional charges, including terminal handling charges, peak season charges, safety and security surcharges, contingency charges and local fees, may also apply.

Peak Season Surcharge

CMA CGM will also introduce a Peak Season Surcharge from 1 August 2026.

A surcharge of US$1,500 per container will apply to dry cargo, out-of-gauge cargo and paying empties shipped from the Adriatic, East Mediterranean and Black Sea to the Middle East Gulf and Red Sea.

The same US$1,500 per container surcharge will apply to shipments from the West Mediterranean and North Africato the Middle East Gulf.

For cargo moving from the West Mediterranean and North Africa to the Red Sea, the surcharge will be US$500 per container.
