Mercitalia Shunting & Terminals (FS Logistix), will continue to be the shunting operator at the ports of Savona and Vado Ligure, part of the Genoa complex. The company won the concession for another five years with the option for two more.
The Genoa Ports Authority put the contract to tender at the beginning of December and has now chosen to confirm Mercitalia. The price for the first five years is 14,3 million euros, with the option for an extension of 24 more months for a total of 21,9 million euros.
The expected growth will enable 24/7 operations, FS Logistix said on a LinkedIn post, adding that they will also start deploying biofuels including HVO. “The aim is to contribute to the development of freight transport to and from the two Ligurian ports, improving the competitiveness of connections and encouraging the transfer of traffic from road to rail”.
