DP World has entered into a 50-year concession agreement with the Fujairah Port Authority to develop two new terminals on the east coast of the UAE. The initiative seeks to expand the country’s port infrastructure, increase cargo handling capacity and offer a logistical alternative to routes that pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic area that faces recurring geopolitical tensions.
The project includes the construction of the Al Rugaylat multi-purpose and container terminal and the Dibba general cargo terminal. Al Rugaylat will have the capacity to handle up to 2.5 million TEUs per year, in addition to 1.7 million tons of general cargo and around 190,000 vehicle-equivalent units. The Dibba terminal will be able to receive up to 3.6 million tons of general cargo per year.

With the entry into operation of the two projects, expected to take place in phases over 24 to 30 months after the start of works, DP World’s total container handling capacity in the United Arab Emirates is expected to increase from 19.4 million to approximately 22 million TEUs per year.
The new terminals will also be integrated into the company’s inland logistics network, connecting Fujairah to Jebel Ali Port and the Jafza Free Zone to facilitate the flow of goods between ports, logistics centers and consumer markets.
