DP World has expanded its coastal shipping network in India with the acquisition of DP World Indus, a container vessel with a capacity of more than 2,500 TEUs.
The vessel will strengthen domestic coastal shipping services and support cargo movements between key Indian ports.
DP World said the acquisition enhances the capabilities of its Shipping Solutions business and supports India’s Maritime Vision 2030.
The company’s coastal shipping network now serves 14 Indian ports and operates a fleet of 10 vessels. In 2025, the business handled more than 473,000 TEUs through its coastal services.
The DP World Indus made its maiden call at Jeddah South Container Terminal, which DP World also operates. The call highlights the company’s strategy of integrating its ports and marine services businesses.
DP World said coastal shipping offers a more sustainable alternative to long-haul road transport. It helps reduce road congestion, lowers carbon emissions and improves supply chain resilience.
The vessel will strengthen links between India’s manufacturing, industrial and consumer markets while providing customers with more reliable domestic container transport.
Ganesh Raj, Global Chief Operating Officer of Marine Services at DP World, said India’s coastal shipping sector offers significant opportunities to improve supply chain efficiency and support sustainable economic growth. He added that the acquisition reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening domestic maritime connectivity and delivering reliable services across the country.
The investment forms part of DP World’s broader strategy to expand India’s maritime and logistics infrastructure.
Last year, DP World’s Shipping Solutions business also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited (SMFC) to support the development of sustainable coastal and short-sea shipping services across India.
