Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) has marked the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee with a fresh set of operational milestones, underscoring its growing role in India’s EXIM trade.
The Kolkata Dock System (KDS), part of SMP Kolkata, handled 3,186 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) on July 6, 2026 — its highest-ever single-day container volume. The figure breaks the port’s previous record of 3,081 TEUs, set only weeks earlier on June 12, 2026.
The record caps a strong first quarter for the port. Between April and June 2026, SMP Kolkata handled 2,53,945 TEUs, up 8.40% year-on-year from 2,34,272 TEUs in the same period last year.
Chairman Rathendra Raman said the milestones reflect the port’s continued focus on operational excellence, infrastructure optimisation and customer-centric service delivery, adding that ongoing modernisation and improved cargo-handling systems position SMP Kolkata to reach higher benchmarks in the years ahead.
Raman congratulated trade partners, officers, employees and unions for the record performance, and dedicated the achievement to the vision of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, after whom India’s oldest operating major port is named.
