Kuehne+Nagel and Mondadori Group have opened Italy’s largest logistics hub dedicated to educational publishing.
The new 40,000-square-metre fulfilment centre is located in San Giorgio Bigarello, near Mantova. It supports the nationwide distribution of books and learning materials to schools, teachers and students.
Kuehne+Nagel developed and operates the facility.
The new hub replaces three existing logistics sites. It also supports Mondadori Group’s educational and retail publishing businesses, including bookstores, e-commerce and direct-to-consumer channels.
The companies said the centralized operation will improve inventory visibility, increase flexibility and strengthen omnichannel distribution.
The hub will also help Mondadori respond more quickly to changing customer demand. The company expects the new facility to improve the delivery of educational materials during the highly seasonal back-to-school period.
“This new fulfilment centre is the result of a long-standing collaboration with Mondadori Group and our shared commitment to innovation and the strategic role of logistics,” said Eduardo Razuck, Executive Vice President Contract Logistics at Kuehne+Nagel.
“By combining logistics expertise, technology and operational excellence, we have created a scalable platform that supports Mondadori’s continued growth.”
Antonio Porro, Chief Executive Officer of Mondadori Group, said the new facility will improve coordination across the company’s publishing operations.
“Having a single highly specialised facility allows us to coordinate educational and retail publishing activities more effectively, strengthen the integration between physical and digital channels, and improve service quality throughout the entire supply chain,” said Porro.
The fulfilment centre became fully operational in June following a phased transition.
The site has achieved LEED Gold certification. It includes renewable energy systems, energy-efficient lighting, CO₂ emissions monitoring and sustainable packaging solutions.
Kuehne+Nagel said the facility also benefits from its investments in automation, technology and advanced distribution management.
