Berg Propulsion has secured a contract to supply propulsion packages for six new multipurpose dry cargo vessels being built at Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry for UK shipowner Carisbrooke Shipping.
The six 7,000 dwt vessels, designed by Groot Ship Design, are scheduled for delivery between the third quarter of 2027 and the first quarter of 2029. The ships are based on the Dutch designer’s Groot 6600 XL platform, modified to increase deadweight while keeping gross tonnage below 5,000.
Each vessel will be equipped with Berg’s MPP950 propulsion system, including a gearbox, shaft alternator, MPC800M remote-control system and Dynamic Drive fuel optimization software designed to maximize propulsion efficiency under varying operating conditions.
The order further strengthens Berg Propulsion’s partnership with Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry. Since mid-2021, Berg has supplied propulsion systems for around 106 vessels built at the Chinese shipyard and was named its Supplier of the Year in both 2024 and 2025.
“This new 7,000dwt MPV contract is a strong recognition from a customer well known for premium service provision of its confidence in the energy efficiency, reliability and safety of Berg Propulsion products and total solutions portfolio,” said Mattias Hansson, Senior Global Sales Manager at Berg Propulsion.
Wu Zhong, Vice General Manager of Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry, added: “Chinese shipyards are committed to building the next generation of energy-efficient vessels. Throughout this transition, Berg Propulsion’s advanced control systems and optimised propeller designs have proven to be an exceptional fit for our forward-looking newbuilds.”
