FedEx has announced the launch of FedEx Life Sciences to support pharmaceutical shipments, while Nick Gennari has been appointed president of healthcare and life sciences.
The organisation has been created to support the increasingly complex movement of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biologics, clinical trials, and other critical healthcare shipments.
It brings together the strength of the FedEx global network with a dedicated healthcare team and advanced monitoring capabilities to serve pharmaceutical and healthcare professionals working to deliver care to patients around the world.
FedEx said the launch comes as medicine becomes more specialised, global, and time and temperature sensitive, and life sciences companies need specialised support from logistics companies.
New president
As part of the launch, Nick Gennari has been appointed president of healthcare and life sciences.
Gennari joined FedEx in 1992 and has spent much of his more than 30-year tenure driving strategic sales and supply chain solutions for global healthcare, aerospace, and high-tech customers, before assuming leadership of the healthcare vertical in 2024.
FedEx said that Gennari and his team’s efforts have been instrumental in growing FedEx healthcare revenue to approximately $10bn globally.

“Every shipment we move in this space has the potential to support a researcher, a physician, a clinician, a caregiver, or most importantly, a patient waiting for care.
“FedEx Life Sciences brings together our global network, advanced monitoring capabilities, and healthcare-focused expertise to help make supply chains smarter and more resilient.
“Under Nick’s leadership, this organisation will help healthcare customers move with the speed, confidence, and precision patients require.”
FedEx Life Sciences builds on investments the company has made in healthcare infrastructure and technology.
In May 2025, FedEx secured IATA’s Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) Pharma certification for its pharmaceutical logistics operations.
In addition, FedEx recently appointed a vice president of global quality, healthcare, and life sciences to oversee global quality management systems for the organisation and support the standards required by pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers.
FedEx has also expanded its life sciences footprint with a total of six life sciences centres globally. Additionally, in October last year, the airline began operating a direct flight between Indianapolis and Dublin, two critical pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs.
These investments in life sciences are supported by FedEx Surround, a monitoring and intervention service that uses machine learning to provide proactive, end-to-end visibility for critical shipments, identify potential disruptions, and support intervention when timing, temperature, and reliability are essential.
