A ship carrying 6 Indian sailors has remained stranded at Pakistan’s Karachi port for more than six months, as reported on October 29, leading families to appeal for the government’s help.

Families claim that the ship was detained after a dispute between an Iran-based shipping company and Karachi port authorities. The sailors’ passports have been seized, electricity has been disconnected, and communication has been severely restricted, a family alleged. They further questioned why Indian crew members are made to suffer because of an issue between the company and port officials.

One of the stranded seafarers is Vineet Kishore Mishra, a chief officer from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. His family has appealed to the Prime Minister, the President and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and requested to ensure the safe return of all six crew members.

Mishra’s family said that he joined the shipping company on February 25, 2026 and travelled on one of the company’s ships from Oman. His six-month employment contract ended in August.
