Jacobsen Pilot Service, the exclusive pilotage provider for the Port of Long Beach, California, has purchased an Artemis EF-12 Pilot vessel from the clean maritime company Artemis Technologies. The order will introduce the first commercial electric hydrofoil pilot boat in the U.S.

A major advancement in sustainable maritime operations in the U.S., the Artemis EF-12 Pilot vessel will bring innovative zero-emission maritime technology to one of the nation’s busiest and most environmentally progressive ports. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in late 2027.

For more than a century, Jacobsen Pilot Service has provided safe and reliable pilotage services to the Port of Long Beach. Its investment in the Artemis EF-12 Pilot will support the Port’s environmental and decarbonization ambitions while advancing safe, efficient, and sustainable pilot boat operations.

The Artemis EF-12 Pilot, powered by Artemis Technologies’ proprietary eFoiler® technology, uses advanced hydrofoils to lift the vessel’s hull above the water, dramatically reducing drag and energy consumption. The result is a high-performance vessel that delivers improved efficiency and stability, reduces emissions and operating costs, and meets the demanding operational requirements of pilot transfer services.
