A sulphur-carrying cargo vessel ran aground near Antarvedi in Andhra Pradesh after reportedly losing engine power during Cyclone Arnab. Maritime authorities are monitoring the ship ahead of an inspection. Separately, powerful waves and coastal erosion damaged the Uppada road near Kakinada, where restoration work has begun.
The Antarvedi vessel grounding has prompted monitoring by port officials and maritime authorities following severe weather along the Andhra Pradesh coast on 28 October 2026.
The cargo ship had departed from Visakhapatnam and reportedly suffered an engine failure before drifting off course and grounding near Antarvedi.
Mercantile Marine Department surveyor Dharmasastha said the vessel’s condition and further action would be determined following an inspection.
