British Airways has been ordered to pay ₹1.66 lakh to a passenger who was left stranded at London Heathrow after a flight cancellation disrupted her journey from Canada to Bengaluru. A Bengaluru consumer commission directed the airline to refund her original ticket cost of ₹1,38,945, pay ₹25,000 in compensation and cover ₹2,000 in legal costs.
The passenger, a PhD scholar at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, was rerouted through Calgary and London after her original WestJet flight was cancelled in August 2024. She alleged that British Airways refused to issue her boarding pass for the connecting flight to Bengaluru, despite her reaching Heathrow around two hours and 45 minutes before departure.
British Airways argued that she had been marked a “no-show”, but the commission said the airline had not produced documents to support that claim. It found a deficiency in service and ordered payment within 30 days. The complaint against WestJet and booking platform EaseMyTrip was dismissed.
