AZERBAIJAN: National railway ADY has signed a contract for China’s CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive to supply four electric inter-city trainsets to support its efforts to modernise the fleet and expand rail connections across the country.
The agreement was signed on October 27 by ADY Chairman Rovshan Rustamov and Wang Qiaolin, head of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive. Delivery is expected within two years.
The seven-car trainsets with a design speed of 160 km/h and an operating speed of 140 km/h will be 135 m long with 434 seats in first, business and standard class.
The order forms part of plans to resume passenger services from Baku north to Yalama on the Russian border, southwest to Mincivan and south to Astara on the Iranian border by 2030, and to introduce passenger services on the line to Xankəndi which is currently under construction.
