Moving large volumes of fragile, high-value triathlete gear between Dubai (13-15 November), Saudi Arabia (27 November) and the Qatar finals (10-12 December) leaves virtually no margin for error. The timeline across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is extremely tight, with just one to two weeks between consecutive major legs. For elite athletes competing in a gruelling 100-kilometre race format, protecting competitive integrity means having specialised equipment ready the moment they land in the host nation. Raman Kumar, Regional Director, Global Event Logistics and Motorsports, Middle East and Africa at DHL Global Forwarding, calls this high-pressure environment the “race behind the race.”

"When you say 'race behind the race', our work starts many months before the actual event itself," explains Raman Kumar. "The first race is in November, followed by another race in November, and the finale in December with a gap of one week or maximum two weeks in between. This leaves no time for delay in terms of the GCC setup."

The logistical operation is global in scope. Essential equipment, specialised items, and elaborate event infrastructure must be collected and consolidated from multiple locations across the globe, including Asia-Pacific, China, Japan, the Americas, and Europe. To manage these global flows and mitigate the inherent risks of regional transport disruptions, DHL establishes a centralised Control Tower well in advance of the first competition.
