DP World has appointed a joint venture between Arcadis and Egis to develop the Contrecœur Container Terminal at the Port of Montreal. The two companies will design and engineer the terminal infrastructure, including buildings, the container yard, rail yard, utilities and truck gates.
Arcadis will lead the environmental assessment, geotechnical and electrical engineering, rail infrastructure, and design of the terminal’s main operational and administrative buildings. Egis will lead the design and engineering of utility buildings, civil utilities, crane rails, pavements and truck gate infrastructure.
Moffatt & Nichol, acting as a subconsultant to the joint venture, will provide terminal planning and operational specifications services. This work will determine the terminal layout and help optimise operations.
DP World signed a joint development agreement with the Montréal Port Authority (MPA) in September 2025 to design, build and operate the land-based facilities of the planned terminal. The agreement provides for a 40-year concession covering the container yard, buildings, utilities and rail connection. The C$1.575 billion (US$1.13 billion) project includes two berths, a container yard and handling area, an intermodal rail yard and support facilities. The terminal will have an annual capacity of 1.15m TEU, equivalent to around 60% of the Port of Montreal’s current capacity.
