EUROPE: As the European rail landscape undergoes a period of profound transformation, the 2026 Railway Gazette Summit will be debating opportunities for building a resilient, competitive and sustainable railway sector. A detailed programme can be found here. Hosted by Railway Gazette International Executive Editor Nick Kingsley, the 2026 summit will take place at the Légère Hotel in Luxembourg on December 3, preceded by a networking dinner and followed by a further networking drinks reception.
Under the theme of Delivering a growing railway: how policy and innovation can unlock rail expansion, the summit will bring together industry leaders at the intersection of policy, technology and market competition.
Regulatory priorities are shifting and technology is advancing fast, from automation to the roll-out of ETCS and FRMCS. Some countries are calling for renationalisation and reintegration, while the European Commission continues to back liberalisation.
The summit will consider how rail can grow in that landscape, exploring the future of market liberalisation, and looking at strategies for unlocking private investment, as well as sharing insights from railways across the globe.
