IAPH president Jens Meier (CEO, Hamburg Port Authority) attended the 11th Port Authorities Roundtable (PAR), which was held in Perth, Australia, 21–23 October. The event brought together executives from 22 port authorities and was hosted by Pilbara Ports. Under the theme ‘The Commitment of Global Ports to Cooperation, Coordination and Collective Action’, discussions focused on digital transformation and innovation, maritime decarbonisation, and strengthening port systems in uncertain times. Dedicated working groups reported on common vessel data elements and API specifications to facilitate data exchange and more predictable port calls, as well as on emergency protocol guidelines to strengthen ports’ preparedness for incidents involving alternative maritime fuels. As part of the programme, attendees also visited Port Hedland, one of the world’s largest bulk export ports. PAR was initiated by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore in 2015. Next year’s edition will be hosted by Tanger Med Port Authority, in Tanger, Morocco.
