KRISO and KOMSA to advance R&D on eco-friendly ships, marine equipment
Key areas of cooperation include sharing demonstration data from KRISO’s alternative-fuelled demonstration vessel K-GTB and providing reference models for the green transition of coastal vessels.
The Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) recently said it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA) to strengthen research and development collaboration in eco-friendly ship and marine equipment technologies.
Through this partnership, KRISO will combine its R&D and at-sea demonstration capabilities with KOMSA’s remote monitoring expertise to promote the practical application of eco-friendly technologies and support the green transition of Korea’s shipbuilding and maritime industries.
The key areas of cooperation include sharing demonstration data from KRISO’s alternative-fuelled demonstration vessel K-GTB, providing reference models for the green transition of coastal vessels, sharing information on onboard accident response and buoyancy assistance technologies, and integrating at-sea demonstration data with shore-based remote monitoring systems.
“In particular, demonstration data collected from the K-GTB will be integrated with a shore-based remote monitoring system and made available in real time to domestic shipyards, marine equipment manufacturers, and other R&D stakeholders,” KRISO said.
