Maersk is reportedly moving closer to ordering twelve container ships of 24,000 TEUs, with options for another twelve vessels, according to DynaLiners.
If all options are exercised, the potential contract would cover 24 ultra-large container vessels with a combined capacity of approximately 576,000 TEUs.
The reported deal would follow Maersk’s substantial order for 18,600 TEU ships, confirmed in September.
China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, Hengli Heavy Industry and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding are understood to be among the leading contenders. However, no shipyard selection, contract value or delivery schedule has been confirmed.
