Confidence in the multipurpose shipping sector has reached a post-pandemic high, with trade lane reorientation and disruption absorbing vessel capacity and supporting freight rates.
The 23rd edition of the Market Sentiment Index (MSI) for the MPP and Breakbulk Industry extends the optimism of the past six months, with the index rising to 55.8 from 54.7 in the previous edition. The survey draws on responses from 27 carriers worldwide.
According to MSI author Justin Archard, the majority of responding carriers said the current geopolitical and economic environment is providing, to varying degrees, a tailwind for the MPP market.
“With longer-term sentiment strengthening once again, an uncomfortable truth is emerging: the very forces destabilising the world – war, climate change, tariffs and an AI-driven energy boom – are helping to create fertile conditions for the MPP market,” said Archard.
