Ocean line sale expands Europe logistics reach for US shippers
The proposed deal would combine shipping, rail and trucking networks across Europe and West Africa, with implications for American exporters and cold-chain customers.
Spain’s Boluda Shipping has agreed to acquire Samskip in a deal aimed at building a broader European short-sea and inland freight network, potentially giving U.S. businesses more integrated options for moving cargo beyond Europe’s major ports.
The transaction is expected to close Jan. 1, 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. The companies will operate independently until completion.
The acquisition would bring together Boluda’s container shipping and port logistics operations with Rotterdam-based Samskip’s Northern European sea, rail and road network. The planned combined system would connect Northern Europe, the Iberian Peninsula, the Canary Islands and West Africa, serving markets in 28 countries.
For the U.S. market, the deal enhances connectivity on regional maritime routes and inland distribution. Samskip already markets international freight-forwarding and temperature-controlled logistics services to American customers.
