A passenger aboard an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Chennai was handed over to airport police after allegedly pressing the aircraft’s emergency-exit button, triggering an alert for the crew. The incident on 27 October raised fresh concerns over passenger conduct and the safeguards required to protect aircraft emergency exits.

The flight, carrying 142 passengers, arrived at Chennai Domestic Airport at around 8 pm, according to local media reports. An alert sounded in the cockpit after the emergency-exit button was reportedly pressed, prompting the crew to investigate. The passenger was identified as Srisailam, a 40-year-old wholesale trader dealing in fruits and vegetables.

According to reports, the crew investigated after the cockpit alert indicated a possible attempt to open an emergency exit. The passenger, who was seated near the exit, was identified and questioned by airline staff and security personnel.

Srisailam reportedly told officials that he had pressed the button inadvertently and had not intended to open the aircraft door. Security officials nevertheless handed him over to Chennai Airport Police for further inquiry.
