TURKEY: Şanlıurfa municipality has let a contract to construct the first phase of the city’s future light rail system to a consortium of Sigma İnşaat, Emreray Enerji and Vestan İnşaat. The consortium submitted a winning bid of TL3.39bn, the lowest of seven bids received.

Phase 1 involves construction of a 14 km north-south line with 15 stops. This will link Karaköprü and Eyyübiye via the city centre, the bus station and the trade fair ground. Construction is scheduled to take 600 days from contract signing.

A previous tender for project preparation and consultancy was won by Yüksel Proje, and a tender for construction supervision, engineering and consulting services by UBM AŞ.

Further tenders are to be called for the supply and maintenance of 14 light rail vehicles.
