RUSSIA: Roscosmos company UKVZ has delivered a 1 435 mm gauge variant of the widely-used Type 71-623 tram for testing in Rostov-on-Don, the only Russian tram network to use standard gauge.
The four-axle single-section Type 71-623U features a redesigned front end and new bogies developed specifically for standard gauge operation.
The partially low-floor tram is equipped with air-conditioning, passenger information displays, wi-fi and charging sockets. UKVZ hopes to secure an order for further vehicles in 2027.
Meanwhile, a Type 71-233 three-section tram delivered by Sinara Transport Machines in August 2025 is also now undergoing testing after more than a year in storage. The tram has a capacity of up to 308 passengers, including 70 seated.
