A possible work stoppage at the West Coast ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach (LA/LB) could happen on Wednesday after the two sides signed an extension through 17:00 Pacific Time on Wednesday, 4 November.

About 250 port watchmen at the ports of LA/LB threatened to go on strike over the weekend. The action could bring operations to a halt at eight terminals in the port complex.

Members of International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 26 have authorized a strike but agreed with the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA), which represents employers, to extend the deadline until Wednesday.

“Negotiations will continue with the assistance of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS),” PMA said in a statement on its website.
