Udupi Cochin Shipyard has launched the first of eight 6,300 DWT dry cargo vessels being built for Norway’s Wilson ASA, with delivery scheduled for December 2026. The Malpe yard also laid the keel for the third vessel and began steel cutting for the fourth, advancing several stages of the export programme.
The UCSL cargo vessel launch on 26 October 2026 marked a significant production milestone for Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited.
The first vessel in Wilson ASA’s eight-ship, 6,300 DWT series entered the water at Malpe in Karnataka. At 99 metres long and 15.85 metres wide, it is the largest vessel built at the yard since operations resumed under Cochin Shipyard’s ownership.
Its cargo hold has a capacity of 316,278 cubic feet. Netherlands-based Conoship International designed the vessel, which is intended for general cargo operations in European coastal waters.
