Representatives of the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Derivatives (Abrafrutas) participated in a meeting with the Colombian Association of Fresh Fruit Importers (Asifrut), in which possibilities for expanding access of Brazilian products to the Colombian market were discussed. Local importers show interest in diversifying suppliers.

The meeting is part of an action promoted by Abrafrutas to prospect opportunities for fresh Brazilian fruits in the Colombian market. The agenda had the support of Brazil’s agricultural attaché in Colombia, Clóvis Serafini, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), which was already in coordination with the Brazilian Embassy in Bogotá.

Currently, a relevant part of the fruits imported by Colombia comes from countries such as Chile and Peru. For Brazil, the scenario represents an opportunity to expand its presence in the Colombian market with products of recognized quality, regular supply and competitive logistics.

Colombian importers also showed interest in increasing the diversity of fruits purchased from Brazil. Among the products mentioned are citrus fruits, nectarines, plums, figs, guavas and persimmons.

During the meeting, the president of Asiffrut highlighted the arrival of the first import of Brazilian Royal Gala apples to the country, received at the Port of Cartagena de Indias. According to the entity, the product showed good commercial acceptance and transit time similar to that of fruits imported from other sources.

The approach to the Colombian market occurs in a context of expansion of Brazilian exports of fresh fruit. In the first quarter of 2026, the sector’s foreign sales grew by more than 20% in value and 13% in volume compared to the same period in 2025.

The result reinforces Mapa’s work, in partnership with public and private institutions, to expand the access of Brazilian products to international markets. Since 2023, 34 new export opportunities for Brazilian fruits have been opened.
