In an exclusive interview with Jornal Portuário, Marco Dornelas, commercial account manager at MRS Logística, explains that the partnership with ONE involves the intermodal transport of containers using the MRS railway as part of the logistics solution.

According to Dornelas, with this alternative, ONE customers and others in the Campinas region can count on a new way of taking their cargo to the port, starting by truck to the Paulínia terminal, followed by train to Santos and, from there, by ship to different international and national destinations.

The freight’s rail journey is 213 km, which significantly reduces pollutant emissions, as rail transport can emit up to 80% less harmful gases than road transport. Dornelas points out that the railway brings more predictability to transport, allows for greater security in terms of theft and accidents, as well as less exposure to variables such as traffic and road restrictions.

Furthermore, the new route also expands the possibilities for using the railway for different types of cargo, such as chemical products, frozen cargo, industrial cargo, commodities, consumer goods and special cargo.

The commercial account manager at MRS Logística concludes by saying that the company continues with a continuous plan for the evolution of the operation, focused on gaining capacity, modernization and integration between modes.

“Within this context, the company also carried out demonstrations and tests with a battery-powered electric locomotive, a technology that causes less impact on the environment. The initiative is part of our long-term strategy to make the operation increasingly sustainable and competitive.”
