Porto do Açu reinforces its commitment to the UN Global Compact
Porto do Açu Disclosure
Porto do Açu Operações (RJ) formalized its adherence to two more commitments of the UN Global Compact: Ambição Net Zero and +Água. The action took place on June 2, during the Ambition 2030 Forum held at the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP). The port complex had already made a commitment to the Circular Connection and Mind in Focus Movements.
The United Nations Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world and aims to encourage companies to align their strategies and operations with 10 universal principles in the areas of Human Rights, Labor, Environment and Anti-Corruption, and to plan actions that contribute to facing society’s challenges. It has more than 16 thousand members, including companies and organizations, distributed in 69 local networks, covering 160 countries.

The company’s CEO, Eugenio Figueiredo, explains that, by joining Ambição Net Zero, Porto do Açu commits to annually publishing the inventory of greenhouse gas emissions, adopting reduction targets aligned with climate science and promoting a transition to a low-carbon economy in a fair and inclusive way.
The new membership is part of the company’s long-term sustainability strategy, aligned with the so-called Ambition 2050, which establishes goals for decarbonization, water efficiency, environmental conservation and social development around the port complex.
The company has had its emissions inventory recognized with the gold seal by the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program since 2021, in addition to being the first port in Brazil to receive the EcoPorts certification, the main international recognition of environmental management in the port sector.
Eugenio Figueiredo declared that tackling climate change requires coordinated action, clear goals and collaboration between companies, governments and society. “The commitment to the Global Compact reinforces our sustainable development agenda, connected to global challenges and the energy transition path”, he states.
